My sister recently challenged me to run with her. She was referring to a four mile loop around the park.
Four miles! I choked. "You're kidding, right? I can barely run five minutes without stopping." "Okay then, one mile," she said, "It's TOTALLY do-able." That became the catchphrase of a more serious venture into the world of running.
Up until now, I had been trying to do it alone, running a few minutes at a time, then walk, run walk. Running solo gives you the freedom to come and go when and where you please, but running with a partner is so much more empowering! "Be ready in the morning, Warrior Princess," she posted on my Facebook wall. My running-addicted husband mercilessly teases me about the Warrior Princess thing, with a twinkle in his eye.
It wasn't easy, but it was do-able. She talked me through a few rough moments, and behold, I completed the mile. Then it happened again. And again. Three times in one week. There seems to be no limits with runners, and we subconsciously took turns raising the bar.

Sister presented me with a challenge PACKAGE:
Hey I got an idea. Why don’t we make a fitness challenge and once a week, award a prize.
FOR example:
There are three components:
a. Food goal
b. Exercise goal
c. Personal challenge
"We can do it however we like, you can challenge me and I’ll challenge you. It’s the honor system, and if (we) are able to do it, we will award each other a prize every Saturday. (like a funky pair of shoelaces for our running shoes, a cup of PANERA coffee, nothing more than say $2, just to make it fun. It can even be free."

There was not reason not to. We both know what the real reward is. Getting fit, feeling good, and getting strong. It all adds up to better health. "YOU'RE ON," I messaged back.
Lace up your shoes, Warrior Princesses! WHOOP!
